Guys help me out here. What NAS are you using or which NAS do you feel is best for home lab or self-hosting apps at home for your own personal cloud? Are you using commodity off-the-shelf NAS devices or have you built your own NAS? Maybe you are using the best of both (off the shelf NAS, reloaded with TrueNAS). Let me know and let's get some discussions started on this topic.

There seem to be a lot of great hardware choices and new vendors out there that are competing in this space. The vendors I know about and have seen or worked with:

  • Synology
  • Asustor
  • Terramaster
  • Ugreen
  • QNap

I know there are many others. But, curious if ones have strong opinions and feelings on this topic of storage and vendor devices out there today as well as open-source NAS operating systems.

@jnew1213 Are you still rocking your Synology in the lab? Curious if you have ventured out from Synology with Storage recently?

As a note, I'm going to have a video out this week featuring the Terramaster T12-500 Pro, definitely a beefy NAS device to take a look at. Stay tuned!
