Managed Kubernetes services for modernized apps

VMware is announcing VMware Cloud with Tanzu services. What is this? It is a new portfolio of managed Kubernetes services at no cost as part of VMware Cloud on AWS. This will help expedite app modernization with Kubernetes in the VMware Cloud platform.

It will have seamless integration with VMware vCenter and the familiar interface there. From vCenter customers can unify VM and container management on a common platform and provision Kubernetes clusters in minutes.

New solutions that make it simple to run enterprise apps in VMware Cloud

According to VMware, statistics show that VMware customers are able to achieve 300% faster Kubernetes deployments, 46% faster cloud migration, and 57% reduction in TCO. VMware Cloud spans 100+ regions across various public clouds, including Amazon AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, and Oracle Cloud and also 4000+ partner clouds in private datacenters with edge services.

VMware Cloud also provides robust security solutions that allow customers to benefit from seamless security policies across all environments. These features include:

  • VMware NSX tapless NDR, secure workload access, elastic application security Edge (EASE)
  • VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery enhancements to accelerate ransomware recovery and restore services
  • VMware Carbon Black Cloud Workload, VMware NSX Advanced Firewall, and VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer all help to reduce the attack surface and increase application availability.
  • Stretched cluster support for environments as small as two hosts in VMware Cloud on AWS

New support for customers needing sovereign clouds

A new VMware Sovereign Cloud initiative helps customers engage with trusted national cloud service providers to meet geo-specifi requirement and data sovereignty controls for compliance and other mandates.

New Tech previews, including Project Arctic

At VMworld 2021, VMware is showcasing new Tech previews that provide an exciting look at future VMware technologies. These include:

  • Project Capitola – A software-defined memory implementation that helps achieve the best price-performance ration for current and next-gen applications. It aggregates memory tiers across DRAM, PMEM, NVMe, and other technologies.
  • Project Cascade – This preview helps to solve challenges of developers and DevOps professionals with an industry-standarad programmatic interface powered by Kubernetesfor declarative consumption for both IaaS and CaaS
  • Project Ensemble – Unifed control plane for VMware Cloud, Project Ensemble helps to bolster operations by providing a unified view across vRealize Cloud Management services.

What is Project Arctic?

Project Arctic, a new Tech Preview, is the next evolution of vSphere as described by VMware. It will unleash hybrid cloud across enterprise environments worldwide. It helps to bring VMware Cross-Cloud services to the masses. Project Arctic integrates cloud connectivity right into vSphere and establishes hybrid cloud as the default operating model moving forward. Customers will be able to instantly access VMware Cross-Cloud services through their familiar vCenter Server interface and take advantage of unlimited cloud capacity on-demand.
