As more and more businesses migrate their data to the cloud and cloud Software-as-a-Service solutions, cloud backups are becoming increasingly important. In fact, as soon as your data lands in the cloud environment, you need to have a means to perform backups of your data. Microsoft’s Office 365 and Google’s G Suite environments provide solutions for which to migrate business-criticial services like email and storage. Even with these highly resilient cloud environments, backups are crucial. Recently, Vembu released v2.0 Beta of their Office 365 and G Suite backup solution. Let’s take a look at Vembu Office 365 and G Suite Backup v2.0 Beta released new features to see what new capabilities have been brought to the table for your environment. Vembu Office 365 and G Suite Backup v2.0 Beta Released New Features

At its core, the Vembu Office 365 and G Suite Backup v2.0 Beta provides protection for

  • Exchange Online with the mail, calendar, contacts as well as backup for OneDrive for Business
  • Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, and Drive

Vembu has really done a lot of great work with this release and included features and functionality that makes this new solution very competitive in this space that is definitely heating up with competition.

The big ticket items with this release includes the following new features:

  • On-Premises Deployment
  • File Retention
  • Backup OneDrive for Business for all users

On-Premises Deployment

Backing up your SaaS data on-premises is a great feature that many businesses may find very attractive. This provides some really great options when it comes to having the choice of where backups of your cloud environment are stored. What are the advantages of doing this?

For one, many businesses may have tight restrictions due to compliance or other regulatory reasons that may restrict the options for storing their backup data in the cloud. Storing this data on-premises allows organizations to have full control over the backup data captured of cloud environments.

Additionally, in the same way that storing a copy of your on-premises backups in the cloud helps to diversify the location of your on-premises backup data, the exact opposite is true of your cloud data. Having an on-premises location to store your cloud data helps to get the data out of cloud environments as a secondary location for that data so that you don’t have all your “eggs in one basket” when it comes to your cloud data.

In addition, file retention contained in Vembu Office 365 and G Suite Backup v2.0 Beta allows you to keep multiple versions of files that you have backed up from your Office 365 and Google G Suite environments. By default, Vembu keeps 5 versions of files, however, this can be adjusted all the way up to 99 different versions of your files. This should provide plenty of options and flexibility for pulling different versions of your cloud files for restoration purposes.

Backup OneDrive for Business for All Users

New with version 2.0 of Vembu Office 365 and G Suite Backup is the ability to backup OneDrive for Business for all users. Previously with the first Vembu SaaS backup product, you could only backup OneDrive for Business for tenant admins.

The ability now for v2.0 to backup OneDrive for Business for all users will certainly allow the new Vembu solution to readily compete in the market to backup OneDrive business accounts.
